URBAN LEPROSY CONTROL PROJECT : (Survey, Education & Treatment)
A slum population of about 1.5 million in Hyderabad was allotted to us, for screening at their door step, resulting in early detection and prompt treatment of 11000 cases.
The excellent services rendered by the Project Staff had earned high appreciation from the assessment teams of the World Health Organisation, World Bank and Government of India. When the project started in 1978/79 the prevalence rate of leprosy in the project area was 90.2 per 10000 population this was brought down to 0.70 meeting the WHO criteria of elimination of leprosy in our project area. In view of the drop in prevalence rate and paucity of funds this project has been discontinued.
