Rani Kumudini Devi was born in 1911 in Wadepally, Warangal District.
She served as a councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad from 1955 to 1964. In 1962 she became the first lady to be elected Mayor of Hyderabad. From 1962 to 1972 she was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh.
She was always interested in social service and became involved in various organisations that rendered care and assistance to the sick and needy. In 1958 she founded the Sivananda Rehabilitation Home for destitute leprosy patients.
Being concerned that affordable medical care was becoming scarce she felt that starting a General Hospital providing affordable medical care was the need of the hour. Consequently she was instrumental in starting the Ramdev Rao Memorial Hospital under the banner of the Sivananda Rehabilitaion Home. This 30 bedded hospital commenced operations in 2002 and has been gradually growing in popularity amongst the residents around the Kukutpally area. It is her hope that this hospital will grow into a 300 bedded hospital in time to come.
Though this home is her main centre of activity her unbounded enthusiasm and energy has found other outlets as well. She is the Founder Trustee of the Purandar Memorial Charitable Trust and the Chaitanya Memorial Education Society. She is the Founder Chairperson of the Mother and Child Society, Sevasamajam Balika Nilayam and Chudamani Vruddha Ashram (Old person's home).
